European Heritage Day

In a context steeped in history and culture, such as Italy’s, managing and enhancing cultural heritage represents a daunting challenge. This vast heritage, scattered throughout the peninsula, has encountered the limitations of state and private management, inevitably leading in many cases to a state of degradation and abandonment. The Faro Convention, signed in 2005, promotes an innovative approach to the social protection of heritage. This concept, centered on active community participation, presents itself as the most suitable approach for understanding, caring for, enhancing, and managing such a vast and widespread heritage as Italy’s. The Convention introduces the concept of a Heritage Community, defining it as “a group of people who value specific aspects of cultural heritage and who wish, within the framework of public action, to sustain and transmit them to future generations.”
